Day 10: Hiking Day #2
Today we went south from the hotel and followed the River Test on another nicely laid out walking path. The same Test Way we were on yesterday but in the opposite direction. We paralleled the river, went alongside cow pastures and arrived at another lovely lunch tavern, Gaunt's. 18,008 steps so far and it's currently 5:30pm.
Nearly all in shade on this lovely 72 degree afternoon. It's funny how just as we get ready to walk back to the hotel, there seems to be a lovely tavern with fine ales! Coincidence?
Chicken crisps? A bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich with crispy fries? Nicely done!
You might recognize this emblem, sitting on top of an ice cold pint 😉
Through the dry marsh on our return, we joined a lovely, local, British woman walking her dog and chatting us up... they have great accents!
Dinner was lovely, delicious and huge portions... Peggy had the 3 course prix fixe menu and I opted for the fish and chips... last English meal after all... and the swans were doing their thing!
Olives...
Dahlia!
Charcuterie
Haddock
Crab and crayfish risotto
Lemon drizzle cake with ice cream and crumble.
We finished the day with 19,829 steps.
Swans, and us, saying goodbye to Stockbridge.
